iOS
Aegis
αἰγίς, the divine shield
Block distracting apps during a focus session. The shield rises. Nothing gets through until you bring it down.
Your phone knows exactly how to pull you away from the thing you were doing.
The ancient Greeks had two words for time. Chronos - the relentless, quantitative tick of the clock. And Kairos - the qualitative moment. The right time. The instant that actually counts.
Aegis exists to protect your Kairos moments from Chronos - from the apps, notifications, and feeds engineered to consume the minutes you meant to spend elsewhere. The block is enforced at the OS level. It can't be overridden by willpower alone. That's the point.
What it displaces
χρόνος
Endless scroll. Notification pull. The apps you open without meaning to.
What it protects
καιρός
The session you set aside. The work that needed your full attention.
Aegis uses Apple's Screen Time framework to block apps at the OS level. The boundary isn't a nudge or a reminder - it holds.
Starting a session with a physical NFC tag transforms the moment from passive to deliberate. The tap is a small ceremony. You're crossing a threshold, not tapping glass.
NFC ritual start
Tap a physical tag to begin. The same tag ends the session. One object, two moments of intention.
App blocking by category
Choose which apps the shield covers: social, entertainment, news, or specific picks. Enforced at the OS level via Screen Time.
Scheduled blocking
Set recurring focus blocks for morning work and evening wind-down. The shield rises automatically.
Deliberate allowances
Set a small number of permitted check-ins per session. Each one is a conscious decision, not a reflex.
Session duration, shown once
At the end of a session, the time is shown. Then it's gone. No history graphs, no streaks, no scores.
